Creating a separation between work life and personal life when working from home.

Before the pandemic, most employees used to work in offices which made the separation between work life and home life very distinguishable. Nowadays, most offices opt for their employees to work from home due to the Covid-19 pandemic. With that said, employees working from home are now having a hard time creating a boundary between their personal and work life as the two previously separated spaces are now intermingled. Whilst they may be difficult initially, there are numerous ways of how to set boundaries when in a work from home setup:

Create a conducive workspace

Creating your own workspace is a crucial step when separating your work from your personal life in a work from home setup. By doing this, you are claiming a space in your home in order to create a space where you can focus and maximize your working period. Finding a nook or corner where there are little to no distractions would be the ideal location for your workspace.  Don’t hesitate to invest in ergonomic furniture as you will potentially be spending a lot of time in one spot.

Create your own timetable

By creating your own timetable you are potentially maximizing your work hours.  Determine which tasks are urgent and which tasks can be set aside for later.  Creating your own timetable also allows you to enjoy your personal time such as family time, break times, etc regularly. Carefully crafting your timetable and sticking to it could be the key to a productive day.

Make work rituals

Creating your work rituals can help to boost your productivity throughout the day. These rituals should be productivity boosters such as arranging your desk, preparing music, or making your morning coffee.

Take regular breaks throughout the day

Strategically placing your breaks throughout the day can help to ease stress and relieve burnout during your work period.  Taking regular breaks can also help to reset your focus as well as help to clear any mental fog.

Maximize your weekends

Working from home can make your weekends disappear in a flash as you are working and relaxing in a single space. Maximize your weekends by setting limits on work hours and setting aside longer times for your personal time. Doing so gives you a greater chance of feeling rejuvenated when Monday starts.

Conclusion

Working from home can easily blur the boundaries of work and home lives, leading to a more taxing and stressful experience.  However, once you determine and set your boundaries, working from home can be less stressful all the more enjoyable.
