Mindfulness when Working from Home

Being mindful is important for your everyday life as it helps you focus on the present . Mindfulness can be useful in both your personal life and work life especially for those who are in a work from home setup. Here are some ways to help keep your mindfulness in your everyday life!

Build a daily routine

Creating a daily routine creates a useful structure to your day. These daily routines could be as simple as waking up at the same time in the morning, preparing a healthy meal, taking a 5-minute break and sleeping at the same time each night. Sticking to a daily routine can be comforting!

Focus your mind

Overthinking or having our line of thought distracted is an all too common occurrence which lessens our work output and affects the flow of work. Focus on the tasks at hand by getting rid of distractions such as social media, daily household tasks and other external distractions thereby increasing your productivity and work output.

Don’t forget your mental health

Focusing on your mental health is an important part of mindfulness.  It is ok to say that you are not ok.  Be aware and try avoiding things that are unnecessarily mentally stressful or harmful and make you feel down.  These things can be associated with social media, news, etc and so be careful what you allow to enter into your mind.  Take the time to breathe deeply and meditate to help you feel better, both physically and mentally.

Enjoy the little things

Enjoy the little things to be more mindful throughout the day.  Be grateful for things such as the nice weather, the peacefulness that the quiet brings and more.  These little things can bring joy to one’s self which can act as a stress reliever or to simply relax the mind and body of a person. So look out the window, soak in the sun and enjoy the day!

Connect with people

Working from home can make you feel disconnected from co-workers, peers and relatives.  The loss of social interactions is one of the few drawbacks of working from home.   Ensuring that you have regular communication with other people will help you feel better and make you feel like you are not alone, especially in the time of a pandemic.

Conclusion

Being mindful in a work from home setup is very important in the long term for both your physical and mental wellbeing.By following these steps, you are setting yourself up to have a greater chance of succeeding through any extended work from home period.
