What Highly Efficient People Avoid Doing

Do you consider yourself as an efficient person when it comes to your work and career?

Like most of us, we want to get things done and finish our work before they are due. It is easier said than done because we are surrounded by things that may cause delays or even failure to completely finish the job. Delays and failures will always be frustrating. Luckily, there are ways to avoid such things from happening.

Here are some tips that we have gathered from people whom we consider to be highly efficient:

Avoid Distraction

With emails, social media and a thousand little to-dos, it’s easy to get distracted when you’re trying to be productive. Distractions are the bane of productivity. If you want to finish on time then avoid getting distracted!

Distractions can be your cellphone, social media, chatty workmates and even extended breaks. Learn to discipline yourself. If you must, keep your phone away. Talk to your officemates and tell them that your productivity is being impaired by constant chatting.

Avoid Procrastination

Why do we procrastinate?

Most people procrastinate because the first task on their to-do-list is too hard to accomplish and it can affect other tasks. Try to organize your list, make sure that the urgent work or the high priority ones will be the first on your list whether or not it is the hardest task.

Also, you may break hard tasks and accomplish them step-by-step. Instead of trying to do it all at once.

Avoid Inefficient Communication.

Communication in any form which stalls your productivity is considered as inefficient. As previously mentioned, minimize chatting with workmates during office hours especially if the topic is not work-related.

Do not avoid making mistakes

When you’re working quickly, you open yourself up to making mistakes. Highly productive people tackle that risk by learning and improving at every possible moment — so that producing good work becomes intuitive. Learn from mistakes. When something goes wrong, analyzing the mistakes and looking for ways to prevent them is a massively valuable learning experience.

Avoid rushing work.

Quality over quantity. The quality of work done is important for a highly efficient person. We do not solely look into the number or hours we put in but also our output should also reflect the effort we give. Producing quality work can often lead to less rework down the track.

Conclusion

Motivation comes first over Productivity. A lot of people looking to become more productive talk about needing to be inspired or motivated beforehand. Highly productive people instead focus on getting started — whether they’re motivated or not.
